We seek a skilled Project Finance Manager experienced in managing budgets for community development projects. The ideal candidate will excel in financial modeling, establish robust financial monitoring systems, and engage effectively with international stakeholders to secure substantial funding for our initiatives. This role combines financial modeling and client relations in the sustainability sector, particularly within the carbon credit market. The ideal candidate will drive project finance modeling, budgeting, and develop structures for monitoring finances with multiple project partners. They will also represent Wovoka in closing deals with relevant stakeholders in the Philippines and internationally.

This junior position will work closely with our COO and the carbon project development team based in Manila, with field staff across Bicol and Mindanao, and with our US-based CEO to help sell our work to the largest multinational firms and get multi-million dollar financing to fund restoration work with communities in the Philippines.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Head of Biodiversity and Community Engagement to turn community project ideas into specific budgets and associated project finance models relying on non-timber forest products and/or carbon credits as revenues
  • Conduct comprehensive external research, consolidate information into coherent presentations
  • Analyze the carbon market and identify potential partners and project investors from climate funds and corporations with net zero commitments.
  • Supervise the flow of money from multiple sources and ensure proper monitoring of cash inflows and outflows working with our professional accounting and tax firm to address any discrepancies from the budget vs. actuals.
  • Work closely with the executive team in preparing and presenting regular company reports to stakeholders.
  • Lead in creating presentations and help present to clients the project finance model of a given project to build rapport with potential corporate buyers and nature investors.
  • As part of a startup, you may assume additional responsibilities to support various facets of our operations, ensuring project success and organizational growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or related fields.
  • With 1-3 years of experience in NGO or non-profit sector, management consulting, financial modeling, and/or related fields, although fresh graduates with strong educational backgrounds are welcome to apply.
  • Strong proficiency with numbers and math for project finance (e.g. NPV, IRR)
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Suite (Sheets, Slides, etc), with strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in the sustainability and decarbonization sector, especially in carbon credits or the carbon market, is highly desirable.
  • A keen interest in and eagerness to learn more about nature-based solutions and carbon finance.
  • Key desire to join a small team of a fast-growing startup and willingness to creatively solve problems, even outside of main responsibilities.
  • Willing to do fieldwork and community engagement when necessary.

Compensation

Wovoka invests in its employees. The base monthly salary may range from PHP 80,000 to PHP 100,000, depending on the applicant’s background and application performance. This is on top of performance-based bonuses that may be provided to employees and other benefits to ensure the well-being of employees is taken care of.
