'Landholder'

A landholder is an individual or entity that owns or manages land that can be used for nature-based solution projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or enhance carbon sequestration. These activities include afforestation, reforestation, improved forest management, or sustainable land use.

The landholder plays a crucial role in carbon credit projects as they provide the necessary land resources and often participate in the implementation and maintenance of the project. Landholders can generate carbon credits by engaging in these projects, which represent 1 ton of avoided or sequestered carbon.

Carbon credits can then be sold or traded in the voluntary carbon market, providing a financial incentive for landholders to implement and sustain environmentally beneficial practices on their land.

Wovoka develops 3 different land types in Southeast Asia.

Coastal mangrove and seagrass areas
Tropical upland forests
Agricultural and agroforestry lands

For landholders who have at least 1000 hectares of land, originating a carbon credit project is feasible. These lands can undergo protection or restoration activities that sequester carbon from the atmosphere.

Quantified sequestration values will be converted to carbon credits that can be sold in the voluntary carbon market once certified by leading carbon credit standards like Verified Carbon Standard by Verra.

Why nature-based carbon credit projects?
